With decisions like this and the Play Integrity fiasco, Google is making Android a locked-down privacy nightmare. At least before you could kinda sorta fight it and have a relatively normal experience.
This is why I'm switching away from smartphones entirely. It used to be possible to adequately secure them (albeit with a fair bit of effort), but Google has whittled away the ability to do that to the point where it's just not feasible anymore.
