I don't judge the parents for doing this. Grief expresses itself in a lot of ways that may not make any sense or seem healthy outside of those suffering it. They're doing what they need to do to be OK.
I 100% judge Acosta for doing doing the "interview", though. It's ghoulish, deceptive, manipulative, and thoroughly abhorrent. It isn't even really an interview, it just dresses up as one.
