Private as in chats for which the user generated a share link and posted it somewhere online that a search engine's web crawler found, as far as I can tell.
Google is a lot more public than it should be, but there's nothing private about chats with Claude or any other chatbot that isn't running locally. These are publicly shared convos, turning up in search engine results - just like every other publicly available content the search engine had crawled/indexed.
Does Chrome use URLs you click on to help its indexer? EG if someone sends you a link to www.example.com/mysecretpage and somehow it appears in Google later.
That might be a case where what you expect is private is leaked by the browser

Relying on search engines to "follow the rules" is the wrong approach.
