Reading the abstract, I'd say they're putting far too much emphasis on nuclear explosions. Yes, beachcombing in Hiroshima is far cheaper than renting a lab with a big laser or railgun to run your own "alloy likely formed by condensation from a mixed metallic vapor" experiments. But as soon as the popular press gets hold of it, there will be overtones of "evil mad scientists want to nuke cities so they can discover new alloys" creeping in.
