Hey all, just wanted to post this project here. I've often found it really hard to find a budgeting app that's actually really easy to use. I think it's just one of the most table-stakes apps you can have, but companies always try to sell you things, or they just make the price some sort of arbitrary price.
I built a budgeting app that not only does your personal expenses but can also do your business expenses as well. Since most budgeting apps are just a wrapper around a Plaid subscription, I just added that in there too. If you're not comfortable with a Plaid subscription or linking up your bank account or your Fidelity account or anything like that, you can just take pictures of your statements, and it'll do the same exact thing.
It has automatic categorization of items. All you have to do is host it yourself and add a Claude API key or an Open AI API key, and it'll infer different transactions. It'll allow you to split transactions and all the cool things that you would need to do for a budget app.
Check out the project. Pop an issue in if you think I should add anything. Again, just open-source host it yourself and take care of your budgeting yourself. I also added the steps to just host in Vercel. I think that it's really weird to make a business around budgeting apps when the whole purpose is for the person that you're having as a user to save money so I just built an open-source one that not only does it for a user but also does it for a business too and then tries to tell you which tax forms you should file and all that kind of good stuff. Super cool for solo founders, super cool for people that just want a good budgeting app and don't want to pay money and want to host it themselves and wanna be able to have control over how the budget app works.
