I can't help but be reminded of how Edison scaremongered around electrocution: the War of the Currents.
Edison was a proponent of distribution of DC, and so he used scare tactics to try to convince people that the competing AC, which could be stepped to high voltages for long-distance transmission, was dangerous. He staged public electrocutions of animals to spread fear.
This is much the same thing: AI is dangerous, except our brand of AI.
Edison did not electrocute any animals to spread fear. Presumably you're referring to the electrocution of Topsy the Elephant which Edison had no involvement with and took place years after the War of the Currents. You're basing your entire argument on a complete and total myth.
Thomas Edison did not attend the electrocution of Topsy the elephant, but his film company did record it, and he did directly fund electrocution of dogs years earlier (1888 is the year mentioned here).
Whether or not Dario, Sam and Elon really believe the worst-case scenarios are realistic, it's obvious that they'd like to form a cartel that they think would benefit their companies.
That would be fine if everyone just moved. Unfortunately we’re in a position where people with interesting things to say happily accept the shepherding towards downloaded the app
At this point if you have something interest to say and you can’t put it in a blog then I guess I just won’t read it. I stopped using Twitter before it started calling itself X because Tech Twitter was always beefing over something stupid and the negativity was bumming me out. I never joined alternatives because I imagine folks are just beefing over there trying to farm engagement from their takes.
If it makes you feel any better, even with the app most of the time these links don’t work (on iOS). It prompts with “open in app store” with 80% probability and the link is unviewable.

I could not have thought of a better anology for explaining Anthropic

I guess with xcancel being down and twitter website being literally unusable I guess I’ll just not know what this post is about
Really is for the best.
XCancel is a nice QOL but sends the message that using Twitter is fine. The more people that give up at the login screen the better.

Here's an alternative, not sure how good or reliable. https://twitterviewer.net/kevinnbass/status/2099626156660043...

I think it gets the chronology wrong? Some of these AI safety orgs were around before Anthropic. AI safety concerns are not new.
no proof or and R&D findings are being published, they can say whatever they want
