I'm one of the co-authors. We meta-analysed 579 neuroimaging studies of consciousness. No brain region was consistently involved across the seven consciousness domains we indentified. At the same time, the combined effects reached ~90% of anatomical regions. So consciousness appears to be both highly distributed and highly context-sensitive, rather than centred on a privileged neural core.
