(OP is not asking about the frontpage, but rather about https://news.ycombinator.com/ask, which shows text posts, mostly questions that usually begin with "Ask HN".)
This has been happening for a while. Not sure what the solution is. Sometimes I go to /asknew myself and upvote the ones that seem good enough to make it to /ask, if not the frontpage, but that's a manual operation and I rarely have time.
I suppose we could fill in the empty slots with posts from /asknew but then not sure how we would pick them...
Hey dang, I didn't know asknew existed and I've been using it for a while. I kept going to ask. I think it would be helpful if it was a tab on its own next to new on the top bar. I want to engage with other people's projects; I just didn't know where or how.
is there any place to find a full list of HN's lists? obviously there's the "lists" link at the bottom of the page but that is missing some, e.g. the above /ask (but /asknew is there?) and some others i've heard of but don't remember the link for e.g. a list of comments detected to be anti-ai
edit: just noticed /ask probably isn't there because it's in the navbar, lol. but still
> is there any place to find a full list of HN's lists?
What I wondered: Is there another list for e.g. my own comments? I would like to have a page with all my comments, so I could search in them. Is there already a way to instruct HN to provide this, or do I need to make my own crawler?
I've thought about submitting a "What are you listening to" question to get conversation about music and podcasts going, would that be an acceptable question to ask?
I don't regularly check Ask HN so I'm uncertain that more should be listed, although I would expect so. But assuming you haven't, the correct place to contact is hn@ycombinator.com which can be found at the contact link at the bottom of the page.

The answer is that not enough posts are getting upvoted on https://news.ycombinator.com/asknew (or https://news.ycombinator.com/newest) to clear the small threshold necessary to make it to /ask.

Maybe we should let people customize the top bar.
Similarly we should have one for /active also I think.
or on the top of the /ask page put a description and a link to /asknew to invite people to vote for good questions

https://news.ycombinator.com/threads?id=1718627440
it's linked from https://news.ycombinator.com/user?id=1718627440
unless I'm misunderstanding what you're after.

You can use „by:“ in the search query to limit search to posts or comments of a user.
If you go to your profile there are links for your post submissions, your comments, favorites, etc.

https://news.ycombinator.com/lists
I randomly discovered https://news.ycombinator.com/noobstories a few weeks ago
I've thought about submitting a "What are you listening to" question to get conversation about music and podcasts going, would that be an acceptable question to ask?
Of course!
> Not sure what the solution is
Is it a growing pattern or cyclical in some way? Does it need a solution or will it work itself out in time?

If you want to see the uncurated slushpile, check /asknew instead of /ask. It's documented in the Lists link at the bottom of the page.
It seems to be broken and showing non-Ask content. Bugs happen; email the site admins and they can fix it (footer Contact link).

maybe you installed a "Hacker news without AI" addon or script?

I noticed this today as well, showing 15 but it seems short and it used to be paged.
Wow this is the first time I've seen a real visible bug on HN.
I see 15
Likewise, and that seems to be because this submission is included, immediately prior to which it must have been 14.
I see 15.
Please subscribe for 15 more
You have reached the end of the internet. That is a paywall in front of you. What do you do?
Ride the shady web archiving engine that inexplicably seems to go in an out without a problem. Then download the rest of the internet.
Me to my AI hardness: "Go commit a few felonies and get me internet Gold++"
Also, the site is loading really slow for me now.

same (well 15, but it's limited)
Seeing the usual 30
Same and double checked and noticed I wasn't logged in so i logged in and I see still 30.
I also only see 15, logged in or not. And it is also showing some posts besides Ask/Tell.
I never use this section, though.
I see 30 and a more button, even on a different browser incognito
I see 15 and no "more", even logged in.
Is it based on browser? I'm running Google Chrome.
I checked in Firefox and Duckduckgo
I guess it could make a difference whether you swear or ask nicely :)
Looks like someone vibecoded and pushed without a review. Been observing too many bugs across X, Cursor etc
Vibecoding on hn admin plane would be ironic but I think it's improbable
