For the last 10 years, I was wanting to make the move to Linux.
It had to come down to a unfortunate "event" of me not working and struggling to find work for the last year since 2025 July. But because I am a white male and being discriminated against from the Current South African Government (ANC - African National Congress), forcing companies in South Africa to adhere to BBBEE Laws (Broad Based Black Economic Empowerment Laws), I have only 7% chance of landing any position at a company in South Africa.
So for the last year I have worked on my skills on self-hosting via my HomeLab, including starting learning journey to learn a programming language called Golang, and finally I have taken the step, as I view it I was given the ability to take the step, to move my developer workflow completely to Linux and so I opted to Install Fedora KDE Linux. Have not looked back and loving my experience deep ingrained in Linux.
I must say that I do agree I need to use sometimes AI for certain CLI commands but as I use Linux more and more I get more comfortable with the terminal.
One thing that I have found is quite useful is to add bash shell scripts to my self-hosted Gitea repositories for common tasks, for example. `git-sync.sh` Would do the common add->commit->pull->push but with a command line comment message passed and defaulting to a default comment message.
I daily-drive Fedora 43 KDE for almost one year and there's no coming back on Windows env. For one soft. dev. student, a really interesting OS especially with KDE (better for transition and first time seeing GNU/Linux). When you deep-dive, Terminal is your best friend (I do full git manip via terminal but don't know how to create a branch from IDE hahaha)
Kind of same here, but on the default Gnome experience. It's just there, out of the way, allowing me to some trivial file operations and running software. The fact it can't really be customized is a huge time saver, as I won't waste time making the colors just right.
And same with git - I wouldn't know how to create a branch from within Visual Studio Code without asking co-pilot.

I've run MX Linux/Xfce for a while now and love it.
Mint was a good portal into Linux from Windows but that didn't last very long.
Nowadays, there is no reason to return to Windows, unless you have a masochistic kind of mentality.
