I've noticed a drop in software quality in many places and over time they become more frequent and longer lived. I think that these are broken windows. The lower quality becomes the norm, and then quality will slip a bit more from the norm and over time becomes the new norm. yes, this is a slippery slop fallacy, I know, but I've seen it playing out in real time.
What is the end state here? If there are bugs the customer (and dev) can see and experience, there must be bugs under the surface going unnoticed.
I think that small bugs here and there which are either not worth fixing or going unnoticed will form a negative feedback loop leading to lower and lower quality.
From the article:
> Programming is insanely detail oriented, and perhaps this is why: if you’re not on top of the details, the perception is that things are out of control, and it’s only a matter of time before your project spins out of control. Maybe we should be sweating the small stuff.
