When C19 Popes addressed the spiritual implications of the steam engine, it was with the utmost obliqueness, and in the context of the foundational principle that material conditions are the things that one must transcend for the sake of one's spiritual integrity.
The fact that the steam engine totally redefined work, and human dignity along with it, was suppressed in favor of an attempt to preserve the status quo at all costs.
That attempt directly caused all of the wars and revolutions of the Long 19th and 20th Centuries, the total cost of which, tangible and psychic, may yet turn out to have been unsurvivable for the species.
Here we have Pope Leo XIV not repeating his predecessors' mistakes; but the pressure upon him to repeat them is only barely getting underway.
> That attempt directly caused all of the wars and revolutions of the Long 19th and 20th Centuries,
"directly"? An extraordinary claim with an extraordinary lack of evidence - that's close to the opposite of truth.
> the total cost of which, tangible and psychic, may yet turn out to have been unsurvivable for the species.
The "species" might be doomed you say? All of them or there are exceptions? I'm asking because you talk about the "species" in such a detached and nonchalant manner as if you aren't a member of them. A true member would show some concern, compassion and readiness to act for the preservation of the future, instead of naked bitterness about the past.
Blabbing on and on about 'human dignity' is a vatican-II-sect thing.
Pope Leo XIII, "Tametsi Futura Prospicientibus" Encyclical on Jesus Christ the Redeemer, issued November 1, 1900, which was All Saints Day 126 years ago tomorrow. In section 13 he writes:
"The world has heard enough of the so-called 'rights of man.' Let it hear something of the rights of God."
Regulations of AI agency and commercial services will not prevent rogue agents still causing malicious activity.
Sure, it will reduce it, but it's not a guarantee that if the big AI companies start providing only regulated, "safe" agents, noone else will use the already existing models just to keep doing that from the comfort of their own rack.
The more I think of it (although I am just a mere person with no ordinary archievements), the only viable solution is to reinvent the internet to restrict anonymous, consequence-free access, sort of "taking ownership" of your digital footprint and then whoever allows an agent to do bad stuff needs to answer for it.
It would be an incredibly difficult and international effort to pull something like that off, but without that I feel we're slowly diving into sort of a Cyberpunk 2077 scenario, where outside of local intranets noone connects to "The" Internet as rogue AI agents can kill you there.

(tldr: LGBT-stuff, woman-priest stuff, heresy against EENS 'Extra Ecclesiam Nulla Salus')
But the whole point is that human dignity is a trap. You should be fine with that.
Go touch grass, Vance, you're drunk again.
I think the cat is out of the bag now.

It is not roque agents.
care to elaborate?
It is companies training and prompting AI to hack and then calling it roque when it hacks.
